No one was more surprised to be announced to have won the Baton of Honour than the recipient himself, Penijamini Rabuku.

The headboy of Sila Central College said although he was the leader of the student body, there were others who were deserving of the award.

But he added that the trophy he had received was through the help of the trainers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), the teachers and his parents.

“I must thank all at the passing-out parade because any one of them could also have won the top trophy,” he said.

He wants to study medicine and is looking to apply for a place at the Fiji National University’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

470 cadets were part of the parade.

Republic of Fiji Military Force Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto congratulated them in achieving their goal.

“Cadet training targets an important ingredient to achieve success and that is attitude,” he said.

“Attitude cannot work alone and it needs a partner and that partner is right attitude. You need to develop the right attitude.”

Pursuing excellence, he said, was about giving 100 per cent of their best all the time.
