The lawyer for the 35-year-old woman who is alleged to have killed her four-year-old daughter on May 6, 2018, was advised yesterday to file their response to the State’s bail submissions by Tuesday, next week.

Legal Aid Commission lawyer Lice Manulevu appeared before Suva High Court judge Justice Vinsent Perera to represent her client Rozleen Razia Khan.

Khan is charged with one count of murder, where she allegedly drove a car into the Rewa River, which led to her daughter’s death. The case was called before Justice Perera for bail hearing, however hearing was vacated to give parties time to file their submissions.

During the last court Appearance State lawyer Susana Serukai said they had had discussions about the safety of the accused’s two children in the event that she was bailed.

She also said they were yet to receive the accused’s psychiatric report and a copy of the letter that she wrote to the Court to help them assess the accused’s bail application.

Ms Manulevu was told to furnish the same copies to the State. The accused had stated in her letter that she was depressed and wanted to commit suicide.

She also submitted that she wanted bail so that she could look after her two children. Her children are staying with their grandparents and the accused would be staying with her brother, about 15 minutes away from the children.

Her second proposed surety is her father and she would be supervised at all times by her sister-in-law whom she would be living with. She is currently remanded in custody.

Her case has been adjourned to June 22, 2018 for bail hearing.
