A Police officer of Naboutini, Sabeto, was released on strict bail conditions by the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.

Waisake Tavutavu appeared before Magistrate Nirusha Kannangara for one count of false representation in order to obtain a benefit.

The court heard that on May 13, 2016, in Nadi the accused knowingly made a false representation to, Verenaisi Tubuna, a Government representative from the Social Welfare Department for the purpose of obtaining a benefit of $3000 worth of hardware materials under the Homes CARE Government initiative.

He was represented by legal aid lawyer Alanieta Dilivalu while Inspector Parmesh Chand represented the State.

Ms Dilivalu informed the court that her client had received disclosures and she asked the court to defer the plea.

She asked the court for her client to be released on strict bail conditions. Inspector Chand did not object.

Magistrate Kannangara released the accused on strict bail conditions, which included two sureties, bail bond of $1000 and to hand over all travel documents.

He will also have to present himself at the Sabeto Police Station every Saturday.

The case will be called on September 12 for mention.
