Time To Forgive, Build Happy Relationships: Ambassador

Indonesian Ambassador says Eid is a time to forgive, forget the past and build happy relationships with your loved ones.

Ambassador Benyami Scott Carnadi made the remark during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration at his residence in Suva yesterday.

Indonesians from around the country were invited for lunch to mark the auspicious day of Eid.

More than 150 Indonesian nationals attended the Eid celebration at the Ambassador’s residence where they were given Indonesian delicacies, sweets and sweet Sewayi dish (vermicelli) made with almonds, cardamom and milk.

He said Eid celebration was a tradition that marked the end of the month-long fasting called Ramadan.

“The fasting is intended to bring the faithful closer to God and to remind them of the suffering of those less fortunate,” Mr Carnadi said.

“In Indonesia, Islam was the major religion. It is my first time celebrating Eid in Fiji and it was just like celebrating it back home.

“I attended the prayer session this morning and it was great to see the brotherhood and smiles on everyone’s faces after the success of 30 days of Ramadan fasting.”
