‘EXPERT’ ON CHINA

Some people have an insane anti-China obsession.

It has gone to a ridiculous level for a retired senior civil servant and former politician who probably spends most of his time tracking and interpreting China’s every move.

He comes out as a self-proclaimed expert on China and conspiracy theorist.

He predicts in a brief to a political party contesting the 2018 General Election that an MOU will be signed soon between Fiji and China on the Belt and Road initiative.

The initiative is China’s greatest international economic ambition, aiming at stimulating economic development in a vast region covering sub regions in Asia, Europe and Africa, which accounts for 64 per cent of world population and 30 per cent of world GDP.

The initiative is devised to reconfigure China’s external sector in order to continue its strong growth.

The “expert” also predicts that the content will be unveiled in Parliament on June 28 when the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will present the 2018-2019 National Budget.

He also has this theory that China is spying in the Pacific, referring to its scientific vessels that call at Suva regularly.

He has a go at columnist Maika Bolatiki for “playing down” the story of the “spy ship”.

He said: “That could be a distraction! The Opposition Parties  here themselves should be concerned because if you may recall, one of these Chinese Yuan Wang ships was also here during the run-up to the 2014 election and it was widely speculated (from RFMF sources) that the ship was a highly sophisticated floating electronic eavesdropping machine (which explains the huge tracking dishes on deck) capable of listening in to any telephone conversations in the country; and while it is in port a special unit at Nabua links up with the ship to track down local calls and that is why we were advised by our sources  to switch off our phones during meetings as the Nabua unit has the capability of even listening in to any meetings attended by their “targets”.

So BE WARNED while these Chinese ships are in port!!!”

7s REP DETAINED

A national rugby sevens forward is believed to have been detained at Totogo Police Station in Suva since Saturday night.

Details of the arrest and detention are unclear.

So much so that news of the detention has made the rounds on social media with a war of words ensuing.

Some of the conversation has taken on racial overtones.

The national 7s rep is expected to appear in court today.
