Shafika Bibi was over the moon last Saturday night after being crowned the Hasmat Investments Lautoka Farmers Carnival 2018 Queen.

The 18-year-old Central College Lautoka Year 13 student thanked Allah, her mother, her chaperone and the sponsors for making it happen.

“I had my prayers answered because I fasted during the month of Ramadan,” she said.

“I dedicate this crown to my mother, Nazia Nisha, for her upbringing. I feel proud to win at this age.

“My only message to young teenage girls is that they should never think that just because they are young they cannot do anything. Your age shouldn’t be a barrier to achieving your dreams,” Ms Bibi added.

She is the eldest of four siblings and her hobbies include dancing, cooking, socialising and reading.

The youngest Queen contestant, Miss Saweni Sector Liliviwa Vakavoli, took out the Miss Charity crown.

“I knew I can do it and age isn’t a barrier for me.

“If the past contestants were able to do it then I can do it too. Since I am the youngest contestant, I was confident that the charity crown would be taken to Saweni this year,” she said.

The 16-year-old is originally from Nalidi Village in Nakorotubu, Ra, and is a Year 10 student at Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial College in Saweni, Lautoka.
