Talks ongoing as our women could soon be playing in the Australian Buildcorp Super W competition

Five players from the Fiji Airways Fijiana XVs could soon be playing in the Australian Buildcorp Super W competition.

This was after Fijiana XVs head coach, Ro Alifereti Doviverata revealed to SUNsports last night that five of the players have been eyed by the Brumbies Women’s side.

“They have shown interest on five players but nothing has been finalised yet,” the former Flying Fijians captain said.

“This is a good start and hope that more will come our way after the tour. It was a good exposure as we set our vision to win both matches. This was special since the last game they played was in 2016 and there were no matches played in 2017.”

The Fijiana XVs opened their tour with a 33-7 win over Brumbies Women which contained five members of the Australian Wallaroos. On Saturday night, they thumped Newcastle Hunters 66-7.

“Resilience has been seen in the girls as they did what they were told. It has been a positive tour with the team’s vision to make it to the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup remained intact and this is a grand start.

“The girls have lifted the image of the Fijiana XVs side. We need a lot of matches to compete with tier one nations.”

Doviverata confirmed that the players will take a break from camp and get back to their provincial unions to prepare for the resumption of the Skipper Cup Premiership competition set for June 30.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana XVs are expected to field a strong team to feature in the 2018 Oceania Rugby Women Championship towards the end of the season.

However, talks are underway to feature New Zealand and Australian teams in the event as traditional neighbours Samoa and Tonga have confirmed their participation.
