Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will attend the Second Ministerial Meeting on Climate Action (MOCA) in Brussels, Belgium, from June 20–21.

Climate chiefs from China, the Europe Union and Canada will be at the meeting.

The MOCA release said that in September 2017, the three first met to advance discussions on the full implementation of the Paris Agreement, together reaffirming their commitment to climate action.

This year, with big divides between the EU and China over aspects of the Paris rulebook, the world is looking to this meeting to broker some agreement.

Currently Mr Bainimarama is in Berlin, Germany, attending the Petersburg Climate Dialogue IX.

Speaking from Berlin the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Yogesh Karan, said Mr Bainimarama was supposed to have left on Friday, but he wanted to be at the 40th anniversary celebration of Fiji’s contribution to peacekeeping in Suva on Saturday.

“He flew out of the country on Saturday evening,” he said.

Mr Bainimarama will be joined in Berlin by Luke Daunivalu, the COP23 chief negotiator, and Deo Saran, Climate Ambassador and Head of Mission to the European Union.
