This follows ongoing discussions between the Chinese Embassy and Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services. Last week, a meeting was held between the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar and China’s ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Mr Qian Bo to discuss bilateral cooperation in the health area.

During the discussions, Minister Akbar acknowledged the ongoing support of the People’s Republic of China, in particular the recent assistance secured for the health services in Fiji.

“The ministry has expressed our interest to Guangdong province to have this MOU extended.  We would like to enhance collaboration in areas of capacity building, knowledge, skills sharing and training,” Minister Akbar said.

The Health Ministry expressed its interests in promoting local capacity building and getting specialists such as neurosurgeons, nephrologists, cardiologists, pathologists, radiologists, and diabetes specialists.

Mr Qian Bo also commended Minister Akbar for the ministry’s coordinated approach to advance health services and its current work in combating communicable diseases in Fiji.

“I would like to congratulate you for your outstanding work in dealing with dengue fever and Meningococcal disease,” he said.

“I am always ready to provide any support to your ministry in your efforts to address these two diseases.
