In creating more seasonal work employment opportunities for Fijian workers, we must set clear goals and remain focused.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Employment Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate while visiting Fijian seasonal workers of AGWORKS Limited in Napier, New Zealand, last week.

Mr Usamate reiterated to the workers that the Fijian Government initiative was to have the scheme open up employment opportunities to people in our isolated rural communities to come and work, save money to enable them to start up small businesses upon their return or make improvements to their homes and living standards.

He encouraged the workers to work hard and maintain a good working relationship with employers, farmers and workmates.

“Do not be distracted easily by the different lifestyle you have seen and encountered during your stay, but remain focused on the tasks before you,” Mr Usamate said.

“I am happy to see you in good health and in high spirits and I encourage you to maintain the momentum for the benefit of your other brothers and sisters back in Fiji that wish to be deployed also under the Scheme.”

He further highlighted that the Fijian Government through his Ministry of Employment is working in engaging a Liaison Officer in New Zealand and Australia to assist Fijian seasonal workers and guide them during their period of engagement.

The Minister for Employment also met members of the Fijian community in Auckland and provided updates on various development phases on some sectors in Fiji and also have taken note of some key issues to be addressed by the ministry.
