Akbar Joins Teachers, Parents And Students In Celebration

Parents and teachers should instill values of multiculturalism their children from an early age.
This was the message by Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar, during Eid celebrations at Kulukulu Public School in Sigatoka yesterday.
More than 300 students, along with their parents, were hosted to lunch and varieties of sweet delicacies as part of the event.
“Our children are the future generation of this nation and it is important that we help them understand these values in order to maintain a peaceful Fiji,” the minister said.
Fiji, Ms Akbar said, was blessed to give people rights to practise their respective religion without fear.
“Religious festivals brings the nation together.,” the minister said.
“Eid is a time that we should show love even to the people you had a disagreement with and it’s a time to forgive.
“We must learn to live with other races and culture peacefully. Our children are the ambassadors of peace. Celebrating such religious events shows that Fiji is moving towards the right direction.”
School headteacher Sharina Riyaz said it was the first time that the school celebrated Eid in a big way.
“Catering for the event was by the Muslim community in Kulukulu. Parents were also invited to be part of this significant event,” Ms Riyaz said.
Eid-ul-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm).
