Energy Fiji Limited will carry out a planned maintenance exercise on its 132,000 volts transmission lines that transports hydro power from the Wailoa power station to Suva tomorrow.

The exercise will be carried out from 4am to 8pm to ensure future reliability and security of power supply.

Chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said as a result of the exercise, no hydro power will be transported from the Wailoa Power Station to Suva.

He said the transmission line would be de-energised to enable EFL personnel to carry out the much-needed maintenance work.

Therefore, EFL customers in the Central Division of Viti Levu will be supplied electricity through diesel stations which are located in Kinoya, Deuba and Korovou.

“We do not expect our customers to be without power supply because we will supply them power through our diesel power stations,” he said.

“But in the event, where we have operational problems on any one of our three power stations, then some customers could be affected.”

He said maintenance works were planned to be carried out tomorrow because of low electricity demand, which will result in minimising disruption to EFL’s valued customers in parts of the Central Division of Viti Levu.

However, Mr Patel said, if the weather was not favourable tomorrow, then EFL might put off the exercise.
