Man On Property Damage Charge Refused Bail

A 35-year-old man who allegedly damaged Police property was refused bail in the Suva Magistrates Court because he had pending matters before the Court.

Samisoni Dawai appeared before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara and waived his right to counsel.

Police Prosecutor Constable Setareki Mocevakaca objected to his bail and said the accused had reoffended while on bail in a previous matter.

Dawai is charged with two counts of resisting arrest and damaging property.

On June 16, 2018, he allegedly resisted arrest from Police Constable Jimilai Moto in due execution of his duty.

On that same day the accused is alleged to have wilfully and unlawfully damaged a light frame valued at $13 inside the Nakasi Police Station cell which is the property of the Fiji Police Force.

Constable Mocevakaca served the accused with full phase disclosures in Court and the accused chose to represent himself in his case.

The case has been adjourned to July 2, 2018 for mention.
