4 In Custody Over Drug Seizure, No Charges Yet

Four crew members, of the yacht, who were involved in the alleged illicit drug seizure are yet to be charged, says Police.

The four, include two Australian nationals, a French and an American, are now in Police custody.

This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday. “No one has been charged as investigations are under way,” she said.

They are believed to be involved in the drug bust involving 13 bars of Cocaine weighing 15 kilograms and Ecstasy tablets with an estimated value of US$10 to 15 million (FJ$20.95m to FJ$31.43m).

The yacht searched by Customs and other Border Law Enforcement Agencies at the Denarau Port on Friday afternoon after it arrived from Borabora, French Polynesia.

It is also confirmed that US$15,000 (FJ$31,425.75) undeclared currency, guns and ammunitions have also been seized from the yacht.

This was after a joint operation by Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, Fiji Police Force, Biosecurity Authority of Fiji and Health Department led to the seizure of the illicit goods. The yacht has been seized and will be forfeited to the State.
