Lelean Memorial School Under-18 rugby team defeated Queen Victoria School 21-17 in the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Eastern Zone competition at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

Lelean led 21-3 at halftime. The boys from Matavatucou came back in the second half to score two tries closing the gap to 21-17.

LMS coach Ulaiyasi Vakatawakoula said securing a win was crucial in their attempt to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Coke Zero Deans Trophy competition.

Vakatawakoula added discipline is a key factor they need to improve on as they prepare for the match against St John’s College next week.

“We scored all our points in the first half, so we need to work on maintaining the momentum throughout,” Vakatawakoula said.

“As we prepare for the quarterfinals we are aiming to win all our games and SJC is next for us.”

QVS coach Jo Savou said they will have to regroup and come back stronger following two consecutive losses to SJC and RKS.

Results: U14: LMS 11-10 QVS; U15: QVS 10-7 LMS; U18: LMS 21-17 QVS; U19: LMS 21-10 QVS.
