Diversity is one of the strong pillars of our nation, which unleashes a great power of unity.

The Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Koya make these remarks when he spoke to worshippers during the Eid celebrations at Saweni, Lautoka on Saturday night.

“Our Constitution protects your right to worship and enables you to freely participate and be part of any religion,” Mr Koya said.

“Therefore, it is important that we recognise and understand that we are all different and we should respect others’ differences.

“We need to be tolerant and respect our diversity of cultures, religions and economic backgrounds.”

Diversity, Mr Koya said enriched lives and builds a model community locally and internationally.

“Our other strength is our belief that there is a God that loves each and every one of us, irrespective of our ethnicity, culture or religious background,” he said.

“That we are all children of God and nurturing this spiritual strength is crucial. Eid and other religious festivals have helped us to maintain that perspective.”

He called on Fijians to work together in making a better and safer Fiji.

“We must continue the sound financial management and planning that has carried our economy to such success,” the minister said.

“We must continue opening doors of opportunity for our young people, through free education, subsidised bus fares for school children, and record funding towards scholarship programmes.” Edited by Percy Kean
