Participants Gear Up For ‘Barrow’ Race

The anticipation about the Amazing Wheelbarrow Race was evident during its launch by the Frank Hilton Organisation on Friday.
The race is a charitable event in which participants are required to raise a minimum of $5000 to secure entry.
Seventeen teams have already registered in for this year’s race and organisers expect three more to make the 20-team competition.
Event chief executive officer Sureni Perera said this was the third year the race was held.
“It has created a lot of hype as well. It’s a different type of fundraiser,” she said.
“As much as people are contributing towards the good cause, we also want them to get something out of it.
“You don’t have to personally provide the $5000 entry fee. It’s a team-building process where participants can fundraise for the entry fee.”
Apart from raising awareness the races is to raise funds as well. Organisers expect to raise $150,000.
Most participants are from the Suva region, however anyone from outside the capital city welcome to take part.
There will be 10 different categories of prizes awarded to successful teams. This has generated a lot of excitement among participants.
The defending champion, Alfie Aisea urged those still wondering about the event to support and turn up on the day because the race was organised for children who were the real winners.
The race, which starts at 7am on the July 28, 2018, will be staged around Albert Park.
