Bau visit sequel
The photos above tell the story.
Some members of the Cakaudrove delegation yesterday rang to give their version of the purpose of their Bau visit last weekend. They responded after reading an earlier article in this column.
The “cara sala” or clearing the way or road, is a traditional ceremony to renew and strengthen ties between two families. The Lomaloma group from Cakaudrove went to celebrate with its Bauan counterpart the legacy of a Soso Village woman who married into its clan.
The callers said in the process they did the “boka” another traditional ritual, for Ratu Epenisa Cakobau. There was no politics in it, they claimed.
But guess who presented the tabua (whalestooth)? It was SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka. It was the timing of the visit, in the wake of the Vunivalu title row, that stood out like a sore thumb.
The photos show Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, a rival candidate for the Vunivalu title, with Mr Rabuka.
If it’s not politics, then what? Maybe a co-incidence.
Shipping solution
For those in maritime islands who have been praying for more frequent shipping services, keep praying because their prayers are about to be answered.
An American investor has expressed keen interest to invest in boats here – actually a shipping service.
At the moment, talks are happening with the local authorities. Right away, the investor wants to bring in six ships equipped with the latest technology to service the islands. The American has been looking for a local shareholder to help launch the new shipping service. There is no shortage there.
Traffic menace
This is one lane going to Suva from Nepani yesterday morning between 7am and 8am. Look at the taxi passing on the left and running on the pedestrian side.
This is a common sight on this stretch of road most mornings. And it is not the first time this problem has been highlighted in this column. Can something be done to stop this? Please help before it is too late.
