Goundar Shipping Limited is eyeing a new addition to their current five-vessel fleet.

GSL managing director George Goundar has confided that his wife is travelling to Japan next month to possibly sign a deal for a new addition to their five-vessel fleet.

“We’re planning to fly to Japan on July 9 and hopefully close the deal on July 10 after sea trials to make sure it is a good vessel,” Mr Goundar said.

He said the 500 passenger vessel would be potentially servicing the Natovi-Levuka and the Natovi-Nabouwalu routes.

“This will give passengers options because our bigger ships could not visit some of these smaller ports,” he said.

Meanwhile Mr Goundar fully supports the appointment of new Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji chief executive Philip Hill.

“The appointment of Phil (Philip Hill) has my 110 per cent support,” he said.

“The experienced captain is a good listener; he takes time to listen to the stakeholders.”

Mr Goundar said a meeting for stakeholders in the industry was long overdue as the last one was six years ago.
