The trial of a grandfather charged with two counts of raping his granddaughter  started yesterday at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

The 70-year-old man appeared before Justice Riyaz Humza.

He is also charged with one count of each sexual assault and indecent assault.

The alleged incident happened between April 1 and August 31, 2013 on Gau Island in the Lomaiviti Group.

The grandfather was 65 years old at the time of the alleged incident while the victim, who lived with the accused during the  school holidays, was 17 years old.
