Family Loses Home

A family of 10 are without a home after a fire destroyed their four-bedroom house last night.
The incident occurred after 7pm near Uduya Point, Wailekutu, Lami, while the family was away at a church service nearby.
Three fire trucks from Walu Bay and Valelevu along with Police and ambulance were at the scene trying to control the fire when a Fiji Sun team arrived at about 9pm.
Apart from the house, a second-hand vehicle was also damaged.
The firefighters’ efforts to battle the blaze were hampered by strong winds.
No casualties were reported.
House owner and father of seven children, Kaloveti Naisoro, said they were not aware of the incident until his wife received a call from a friend who saw the fire and called the National Fire Authority.
He said when his wife informed him about the fire, he ran to the house, but by then it was engulfed in flames.
“The years of hard work and investment in our house was reduced to ashes and I stood there helplessly,” Mr Naisoro said.
The family is now staying at a neighbour’s house while Mr Naisoro plans to seek assistance.
