President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote on Thursday received the iTatau from the delega­tion to the 2018 Melanesian Arts and Cultural Festi­val. The festival will be held in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

The head of state while addressing the delegation said that as Pacific is­land people with a unique culture and tradition, we should be proud of the fact that we are different from the rest of the world.

“You will be rep­resenting Fiji and showcasing part of our beloved na­tion’s rich cultural heritage to the rest of the Pacific,” President Konrote said.

“Enjoy the festival and return with the highest passion to preserve our unique culture and tradition. This will en­sure that our nation will continue to benefit from the di­verse rich cultural heritage that we can all take pride in as Fijians.”

The 80-member delegation consists of contemporary art­ists, cultural performers, band members and visual artists. The festival is from July 1 to July 14.
