Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum officially launched the Nadroga Netball Association competition at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.

Sayed-Khaiyum emphasised on the importance of sporting activities as an agent towards combating Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

“We have one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world,” he added.

Sayed-Khaiyum told participants to become ambassadors of change in getting rid of NCDs.

“Sports play a pivotal role in ensuring not only friendship but discipline as well.”

He also said that sporting activities create a lot of community spirit as well.

Nadroga president Mili Naituyaga said the competition was necessary in order to select players for the Nadroga netball team.

“With this, we can select the best players to represent Nadroga,” she added.

SQ Roses won the NNA knockout netball tournament after beating Tuva 17-13 in the final.
