Fijian- born England loose forward Nathan Hughes has set his sights on representing his adopted country at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Speaking to SUNsports, Hughes said this is his opportunity to make things happen.

“I know it will not be easy,” he said.

“I feel if I put myself in the right position then everything will just fall in to place. The biggest obstacle for me in achieving this dream will be myself.”

Hughes who is from Lautoka plays for London Wasps but he was in the country to attend to Josua Tuisova and Filipo Nakosi’s double wedding at Votua village in Ba last Friday.

“It has been a huge year for me and the members of the English squad.
“We had a few bumps along the way, but I feel the win against South Africa was a much-needed one in terms of boosting our morale for the upcoming World Cup.

“Like everybody else in the team, everyone will want to be in that World Cup squad, but in the end it will depend on who wants it the most and who is performing on the day.”

Hughes spoke highly of his fellow Fijian players who he plays against in the Aviva Championship.

He also highlighted the increasing number of talents in the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians squad and the potential threat they pose in creating major upsets in the World Cup.

“With players like Tuisova and Semi Radradra, Fiji will have a very potent attacking power, something other teams will have to look out for.

“We saw a glimpse of that during the Barbarians match, they were devastating.”

Hughes said he would be looking forward to play against Fiji in next year’s RWC, if they do happen to meet up in the playoffs.
