With Damodar City Labasa, all Fijians will have clear proof that Vanua Levu has entered into a new era of economic development.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said this during the ground breaking ceremony at the Naiyaca Sub-Division in Labasa, yesterday.

“When the Damodar Group announced its plans to expand its Damodar City brand to Labasa, the excitement not just in Vanua Levu, but all throughout Fiji, was clear,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“Entrepreneurial Fijians are taking full advantage of our economy’s upward trajectory and investing the fruits of their labour back into the bustling customer-base that had already brought success to their businesses.

“Over the past few years, we’ve seen the private sector changing the face of Fiji as we know it. Real estate developments of all types from retail to residential, from hospitality to commercial office space – are springing up throughout Fiji, changing the way that Fijians live, work, and play.

“They bring with them rewarding jobs, improved goods and services, more competitive prices, and more variety, enriching the lives of Fijian families.

“For years the FijiFirst Government had worked to bring the North into the fold of Fiji’s growing economic prosperity, investing hundreds of millions of dollars in the necessary infrastructure, technology, education, and Government services to allow Fijians to thrive.

“In doing so, we have laid the foundation for Vanua Levu to become every bit as developed, and every bit as attractive a place in which to earn an education, start a career, and raise a family, as Viti Levu.”

Damodar City Labasa plans to have more features than its counterpart in Suva.

It will cover over double the amount of land–– around eight acres in total, compared to Suva’s 3.5-acre grounds–– and encompassing a 4-star hotel, high-tech cinemas with a premier event lounge, a department store, and one of the largest supermarkets in all of Fiji. To cater to what will assuredly be a highly-trafficked development, the centre will have over 400 car parks––twice the amount of spaces at Damodar City Suva,” he said.
