Protecting our women

Catholic priests are widely respected in the church family. When they speak church members listen and obey.

A SODELPA member was confronted by a Catholic father, who was concerned about the way Sainiana Radrodro was publicly humiliated in the party’s annual general meeting at Namoli Village last Saturday.

This was the first time, according to him, that they had heard a wife of a parliamentarian being treated  with disrespect.

That motion should not have come up for discussion at all, he said. It should have been binned.

Mrs Radrodro and Mr Radrodro are one of the party’s hardest working couples. Was this a ploy by their opponents in the party to rattle them before they spoke out? Whatever the reason, it was a cheap shot and it denigrated the women fraternity. Surprise, surprise – no word from the Women’s Crisis Centre or the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement.

Diplomatic Changes

More diplomatic changes are on the way. It started with Luke Daunivalu, deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Chief Negotiator for COP23, going to Canberra to replace Yogesh Punja who moves to  New Delhi to fill the vacant position there.

Chiefly installation

The planned chiefly installation in a village in the Northern Division will carry on despite a dispute.

It is understood that the group has solid grounds for the installation. However, the aggrieved clan said it would use its rights to challenge the installation through a letter to the Roko Tui of the province.

It’s official

It is now official that the funeral service for the late Ratu George Kadavulevu Cakobau will at the Bau Methodist Church, Bau next Wednesday.

His final resting place will be at the chiefly burial ground (sautabu). The official reguregu (paying last respect) will begin on Bau Island on Monday, July 9 and July 10. Funeral will be on July 11.
