A fault that occurred on the 132kV/33kV transformer at the Cunningham Road Substation at 4:59pm yesterday triggered a series of events causing a power disruption.

It affected some of Energy Fiji Limited  customers in parts of the Central and Western Regions of Viti Levu.

This fault at the Cunningham Road Substation also affected power supply to some of EFL’s  customers in the Western region because the power system in Viti Levu is interconnected.

EFL chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said his teams started normalising and restoring power supply and were able to restore power supply to most of the affected customers by 5:30pm.

“And power supply was fully normalised at 6:15pm,” he said.

“Our teams are continuing repair works on the faulty transformer and will work around the clock to ensure that it is repaired at the earliest and put back in service.

“EFL sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused to all our affected customers due to this power disruption.”
