Rodu Steps Down, Dau Steps In

FORMER NATIONAL FOOTBALL DEFENDER TO PREPARE OUR WOMEN’S TEAM FOR THE OCEANIA CHAMPIONSHIP IN AUGUST
Rewa football head coach Marika Rodu has stepped down.
He revealed this to SUNsports yesterday indicating that he is focusing on preparing the national women’s team for the Oceania championship in August.
“I’m taking a break from the Rewa team and have no plans to return,” he said.
“Right now I’m concentrating on my role as coach for the national women’s team and I know Rewa will still be able to excel.”
Rodu began his football career at the age of 13 and in 1999 he joined the Fijian Under-20 side while also being part of the senior team.
In 2008, then Rewa Football Association president Pranil Singh offered him the opportunity to coach the side which he accepted and never looked back.
In 2013, he retired from playing and took up coaching.
The Rewa team are currently training under interim coach/player Lorima Dau, as they prepare for the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament which is to be held on July 20-22.
Dau took up the coaching role during the Vodafone Fiji FACT final where he guided Rewa to beat Labasa in the final.
“This is a whole new environment to be a player and to coach at the same time. Training has been going smoothly day by day,” Dau said.
“There is a lot of expectations from the team and also the people of Rewa. I know have huge shoes to fill but I’m ready to take on the challenge.”
Rodu said he has faith in Dau who is able to fit into the role.
“Dau has been working with me over the years and he has a lot of experience and will do a good job,” Rodu added.
