Navy Commander, Captain (Navy) Humphrey Tawake has advised school students to pursue their dreams without the fear of failing.

This was his inspiring comments to Gospel High School students during their passing out parade in Samabula yesterday.

He told them that failing was a part of the process to achieving success.

He added that they must also be willing to make the necessary sacrifices.

“Make necessary sacrifices if it is required. A leader must also make sacrifices to go up the ladder.”

He advised students who will be leaving Gospel High School this year to pursue higher education in line with their chosen careers.

“Always remember the nurturing, mentoring and difficult times at the school. The sacrifices you made will not be in vain,” the Fiji Navy Commander said.

“Like all students in Fiji you are the nation’s future.”

Captain (Navy) Tawake urged them to make Fiji a more caring and respectful nation that is protective of the women, children and of course all citizens.

“That mammoth task starts with you now,” he said.

“Cadet training is not meant to turn you into soldiers. It is meant to instill some important virtues like discipline, respect, courage and teamwork.”

These qualities, he said would be good for them throughout their lifetime.

Captain (Navy) Tawake reminded the head prefects and senior students that they must exercise good leadership during their tenure as prefects and senior students.

As leaders he said they must earn the respect of others, and never instill fear for others to follow them.

“Leadership is an art not a science. The true measure of leadership is influence,” Captain  Tawake said. Edited by Percy Kean
