Lelean Memorial School Under-18 rugby team have qualified for the Coke Zero Deans Trophy national quarterfinals after a lapse of two years.

LMS edged out Saint John’s College Cawaci 10-8 during the Eastern Zone semifinal at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Lelean have secured their spot as one of the top two teams alongside Ratu Kadavulevu School.

LMS coach Ulaiasi Vakatawakoula said the win was significant for them since they are also celebrating the school’s 75th anniversary.

Vakatawakoula added that SJC was a tough team to beat and they have only a week left to face RKS in the finals.

“This victory is dedicated to the school who are also celebrating their anniversary so this win is very special to the team.

“It has been two years and this is not the end, we are looking forward to the finals and also the quarterfinals. We want to bring the Deans Trophy back to the school.”

Meanwhile, defending champions RKS thrashed Queen Victoria 68-0 in the second semifinal.

ON TRACK

RKS vice-principal Walesi Soqoiwasa said their goal to retain the title is still on track and they would need to work on the other grades as well.

“The initial target was to defend the titles and they have been showing good signs throughout the season,” he said.

Queen Victoria will now play St John’s to determine the third team from the zone to the quarterfinals.

The Eastern zone finals are on this Saturday before the teams have a week’s break.
