Four Robbery Accused Remanded In Custody

Four men charged with aggravated robbery have been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.

Colaivalu Volavou, Sailasa Verebasaga, Maika Nasalato and Jone Kuva appeared before Justice Daniel Goundar on Friday.

The matter was transferred to the High Court from Nausori Magistrates Court. The four accused each are charged with one count of aggravated robbery.

Volauvou, Verebasaga, and Kuva applied for bail in the High Court saying they were employed, but bail was refused by Justice Goundar.

State prosecutor Susan Serukai asked to be given 21 days to file information and disclosures.

She told the court that the accused and complainant lived in the same area when the alleged incident took place.

Ms Serukai told the court that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution was yet to receive the complainant’s medical report.

The four accused are remanded in custody and were told to seek legal aid assistance and file proper bail applications.

The matter was adjourned for bail hearing to July 23.
