Government and Opposition MPs reminisced about their past four years as lawmakers as Parliament adjourned sine die last night in its last sitting before the 2018 general elections.

The adjournment followed heated debates on the 2018-2019 National Budget which was passed.

Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni thanked all MPs for their contribution on issues affecting the nation and hoped she has successfully carried out her role in maintaining order during Parliament proceedings.

It was an emotional moment for MPs as they bid farewell.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate said he was honoured to contribute to the law-making process of this nation and hoped to return after the general election.

Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Koya said he was honoured to serve his nation and people.

“It’s been a wonderful journey and a great opportunity to serve my people. I did my job with passion and I love my country,” he said.

“There is a part of me that always wanted to give back and I thank all my supporters.”

Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou said he learned a lot from the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He added politics had become part of his life and that it was an honour to serve the community.

“I’ve applied for another FijiFirst ticket, but it will depend on the selection panel,” he said.

Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa thanked all her family members and supporters for standing by her.

“I hope that I’ve served my people according to their needs and if I didn’t please forgive me for not being able to perform. I’m standing again in this year’s general election,” she added.

National Federation Party Leader Biman Prasad said they had done their job as elected MPs to raise their supporters’ views.

“I would like to thank all those who voted for us in the last election and I look forward to their support in the future,” he said.

Government MP and former journalist Matai Akoula said it had been a good experience coming from a media background and a lot of learning had been attained.

SODELPA Opposition MP Viliame Gavoka said he enjoyed his term as an MP.

“I’ve enjoyed the challenges and process in making laws. I hope to come back,” he said.
