Gareth Baber admitted choosing his 12 players for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens is getting tougher.

During a Skype interview from Park City, Utah yesterday, the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach said he needs to consider a lot of factors.

“I am in a tough situation because of the different nature of players,” he said.

‘Four of them are overseas based and play a different rugby altogether.

“We are playing in the RWCS which is different experience altogether and players need to be fully prepared for it.

“We are training at a ski resort in Salt Lake City where most of the athletes from the United States come and train.

“The reason why I brought the players to train here was to adapt to the different environment as it not only helps with the oxygen intake but in the formulation of red blood cells for the proper functioning of the body.

“So by the time when we drop down to sea level in San Francisco on Sunday the players will be ready.

“We are hopeful to meet Japan in the pool game. I’m fully aware of the style of rugby they play that is high tech and more of Fijian style of game as they also have few Fijian boys playing for the side too.

“In terms of physicality, the four overseas based players, Leone Nakarawa, Semi Radradra, Josua Tuisova and Semi Kunatani have impressed me over the past few days.

“Nakarawa and Tuisova have a good aggressive upfront personality and strong ball handling as well as Radradra and Kunatani who have been good with their defence and attacking skills.

“And as far as the kicking game is concerned Vatemo Ravouvou, Amenoni Nasilasila and Waisea Nacuqu have been working hard on their kicking skills.

“Looking at our backline players like Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Eroni Sau and Semi Radradra have the capacity in them to play this position and they also have the balance to play in the forwards as well.

“So from the 16 players I have in camp only the best 12 will be selected on Sunday which will be a very tough decision for me to finalise.”
