Day one of the 32nd annual Fiji International Game Fishing tournament yesterday saw four sailfish tagged and released and two Wahoo and one Mahimahi landed for weigh-in.

Team Golden Eagle tagged and released three sailfish and Team Sheer Delight the fourth.

Imtiaz Saku Khan from Team Golden Eagle said, ‘The conditions made it extremely challenging to tag the sailfish but they managed to pull it off and gain some valuable points for the team.’

Teams earn 200 points for a Tag and Release Sailfish.

Seven teams are competing for the coveted first place team and only one of the 40 anglers will take home the Top Rod award.

In 2017 saw Team Golden Eagle take out first place with total points of 516.90. Scott Davies took home the 2017 Top Rod award with 264.30 points which included a Tag and release sailfish.

The fleet arrived into The Pearl South Pacific Resort’s marina on Wednesday and Thursday for the three-day tournament and is made up of Maverick, Reelax’n, Sheer Delight and Deepa III from the West, Golden Eagle from Suva and two teams from Pacific Harbour; Addiction and Motion of the Ocean.

The public is welcome to attend weigh-in every afternoon from 5pm.

The Fiji International Game Fishing tournament was revived in 2017 after a two-year hiatus and is staged by the Pacific Harbour Game Fishing Club and is supported by SunLover Marine, Clark Group (Fiji) Ltd and The Pearl South Pacific Resort. Main sponsors include Anchorage & Beachcomber Resorts, Golden Manufacturing and ZAR Logistics. –
