Australia’s Ambassador for Women and Girls Sharman Stone  paid a visit to the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa.

Ambassador Stone commended Minister Vuniwaqa on her leadership of a Ministry with such a large portfolio of women, children, welfare, disability and older persons.

She also commended Ms Vuniwaqa on Fiji’s strong investment in inclusive growth.

Permanent Secretary Dr Josefa Koroivueta was also present for the visit.

Background

The former Australian politician is a long standing advocate and published writer on the Pacific region’s, indigenous women’s and environmental issues.

She represented the Division of Murray in the Australian House of Representatives between March 1996 and May 2016 as a member of the Liberal Party.

Ambassador Stone has held her current role since late 2016.
