The Weet-Bix Stingrays cricket team aim to end the Sanitarium Weet-Bix National  Cricket Championship a winner at Albert Park, Suva today.

Team manager Josaia Baba said the team is grateful with what they have achieved and look forward to reaching the final and being selected for the Fijian team.

“The team comprsed of players from Lakeba and Oneata in Lau,” Baba said

“It’s a young team with the oldest being 26 years old.

“The biggest challenge that we always face is getting this two teams together for training because of the distance of the two islands.”

Cricket Fiji development manager Josefa Rika was impressed with the performance.

“I happy with the results we have been receiving so far as it is also good for the players in the islands to challenge themselves,” Rika said

Cricket Fiji will select players for the 2018 ICC World Twenty 20 East Asia Pacific Sub Regional Qualifier after the tournament.

The national selectors hope to rope in new talents from the four teams taking part.

Tournament director Ponijese Saulekaleka, says the standard of cricket has improved and the players are also vying for a spot in the final team.

Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Vanuatu will be part of the qualifiers which will be held on August 25-30 at Albert Park, Suva.
