Between The Lines

Who’s paying for PM?
If you are wondering who is paying for the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s trip to watch the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco, BTL will tell you.
World Rugby is paying because it invited him in his capacity as President of the Fiji Rugby Union.
His presence will be a big boost for the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team in its bid to win the prestigious Melrose Cup.
In 2005, he watched the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Hong Kong and the Fijians won the Melrose Cup.
In 2016, he watched the Fijians win the gold medal at the Rio Olympics. World Rugby also paid for those trips too
There is hope he will watch our reps win the Melrose Cup on Monday.
New chiefly process
The process followed in the selection of Ratu Epenisa Cakobau to be the Vunivalu has been discarded.
BTL has now been reliably informed that the new process is for the four sub clans Mataiwelagi, Naisogolaca, Muaidule and Qaranikula to sit again and unanimously agree on the candidate. The claim of a fifth sub clan, Vunivalu, is still being investigated. Once it is verified to be true then the official announcement will be made.
Someone from the sub-clans has to call the meeting.
The iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission (TLFC) will only intervene when there is a challenge after the installation.
Don’t fill form
A member of the 1st Fiji Battalion is calling on members of the Fiji Peacekeepers Association NOT to fill the forms now handed around to them by some members of the association.
Members have been told that only those who filled the forms would be eligible to receive their payment before the elections.
What payment? There is none.
The Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, has made that very clear. Hasn’t he?
