Luke Cama, a returning seasonal worker under the Australia Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP) yesterday received a 23 feet fibre glass boat with a 40 horsepower outboard engine and building materials for the completion of his house. He received them under the Self Help Programme 2017/2018 from the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development.

Mr Cama was engaged under the Australian SWP in 2017 and saved a total of FJ$26,000 from the programme.

The Provincial Administrator (PA) Lau, Eliki Masa, said that Mr Cama deposited $5328 for his fibre glass boat of which Government paid a two-third (2/3) contribution of $10,656 under the Self Help Programme.

He also paid $3166 for the completion of his house of which government paid $9000 for the procurement of building materials.

PA Lau thanked Mr Cama and praised him for his confidence and focus that resulted in the benefit from the initiatives provided under the Fijian Government.

Deputy Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Vilimone Baledrokadroka highlighted that seasonal work is challenging for first timers, and to return to Fiji with a saving of $26,000 is a great achievement for the Government.

He also congratulated and thanked Mr Cama for being goal-centered and remaining focused towards the opportunity provided by Government.

Mr Cama thanked God and the Government for the employment opportunity that allowed him to improve living standards back home and also in providing assistance to the community.

Mr Cama was registered under the seasonal work employment opportunities in Matuku, Lau and also had to undergo a medical assessment and physical fitness test

He was employed with MADEC in Queensland engaging in banana picking and was contracted for the duration of the six-month seasonal worker programme.
