Staff and students of Votualevu College in Nadi were overjoyed after scooping two trophies in oratory competitions.

Pallavi Pratap beat competitors from 12 other schools for the Hindi oratory contest organised by the Curriculum Advisory Services and received a trophy on June 6 at Cuvu College

This was for the Nadi/Lautoka/Sigatoka zone.

“I feel honoured and indebted for this achievement,” said Pallavi.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Adriana Kumar topped other orators from Year 11, 12, 13 and managed to win the first place in commemoration with “World Blood Donor Day”.

A total of 20 schools took part in the competition.

Adriana was awarded with a trophy, a gift hamper sponsored by FMF, $300 for the school and a $200 Food and Beverage voucher from Radisson Blu Resort.

She was later chosen to represent the Western Division for the finals in the North, where she finished second. She was awarded a shield and $150.

The English oratory contest was held on June 7 at the Sugar Cane Growers Council Hall in Lautoka with the final held on June 16 in Labasa.

Principal Rajesh Chand was overjoyed with the achievements.

“The effort of my teachers and two girls for this achievement is commendable. I have confidence in my teachers and I believe that we can achieve greater heights” said Mr Chand.

“Here at Votualevu College we do not leave any stone unturned, be it in academic achievements or in extracurricular activities.

The college has a team of orators who are taught to develop their oration skills under the guidance of the Language Department.”
