New Zealand’s Tiffney Perry won the hand cyclist category during the Island Chill Suva Marathon yesterday.

The 49-year old mother of two has been participating in several marathons around the world for the last eight years and this was her first in Fiji.

Perry is calling on the people in Fiji who have disability not to shy away from participating in the marathon.

“Anyone with a disability in Fiji should give this marathon a go. It is friendly race and it is not much of a competition and the feeling of accomplishment is amazing,” Perry said.

She aims to return for next year’s competition.

“The road was quite bumpy and I had to be careful and watch out for other runners as I do not want to be thrown away from my first marathon,” Perry said.

“I brought my bike and my family are all here and it has been really good.”
