The Cuvu College Under-18 rugby team prepare for an uphill battle in the Powerade Deans Rugby quarterfinal against Lelean Memorial School at the ANZ Stadium on Saturday.

After playing in the quarterfinals in 2015, 2016, the team from Nadroga reached the semifinal last year where they lost to eventual winner, Ratu Kadavulevu School.

“We stepped up last year and reached the semifinal,”school principal Navneet Misha said.

“We aim to lift our game again and it would always be tough against the Eastern Zone teams like LMS.

“We are going to give our best shot and treat it like it’s our last too. Despite the financial setbacks, the boys managed to prepare themselves well with whatever available to us.  We don’t have a gym like other schools but that’s a challenge not an obstacle.

“Our long term aim is to prepare rugby players for the future. We want them to succeed and become Flying Fijians or secure rugby contracts overseas.”
