National Federation Party (NFP) Provisional candidate, Dennis Rounds, has withdrawn from standing in the 2018 General Election.

Mr Rounds was named as a NFP provisional candidate early this year.

Mr Rounds had recently posted on his Facebook page saying: “Following serious soul-searching and sincere discussions with NFP leader, Biman Prasad, I have decided to withdraw from this year’s election,” he said.

“I will, however, continue to be a supporter of the National Federation Party because I firmly believe in the party’s principles and the fact that I strongly feel Fiji needs an alternative to those we currently have in power.

“To all who pledged support to me in the months since January 2018. Thank you kindly for your pledges.

“In the interest of transparency, I would also like to make it abundantly clear that I have not raised nor received a single cent from anyone by way of fundraising for election purposes.

“If anyone has provided any funding towards my campaign efforts to anyone claiming to represent me, please advise me and I will report the matter to the relevant authorities.

“Here’s hoping for a successful general election and a more balanced Parliament. Thank You.”

Mr Rounds was a local communications specialist and longtime manager for media and communications at the Australian High Commission. Before that he worked as a journalist.
