School’s Water Woes Fixed Thanks To Resort

The new 10,000 litre water tank donation from Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa is expected to assist more than 280 children at Kulukulu Public School in Sigatoka.
The donation is part of the resort’s Make a Difference (MAD) Project. The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa, officiated the handing over ceremony this week.
School headteacher Sherina Riyaz said the school was in need of a new water tank.
“This is great. This school needed this because it will come in handy in times of droughts and dry seasons and they always faced difficulties,” Ms Riyaz said.
Resort general manager Francis Lee said the project was part of the resort’s initiative to implement six MAD projects within Nadroga-Navosa province in 2018, under Shangri-La’s Embrace Care for People project.
“The additional tank provided by the resort will provide a much needed boost as the school experiences frequent water cuts.
“We have a very active staff volunteer programme that allows our colleagues to contribute their time and skills to community development,” he said.
