The Suva Grammar School Under-16 side beat Lelean Memorial School 15-11 during the Powerade Super Deans Rugby quarterfinals at Buckhurst Park, Suva, yesterday.

SGS captain Apaitia Tuirara said he kept urging his team-mates to make their tackles count and keep moving towards Lelean’s try-line.

The Tokatoka, Tailevu native said although they were down by five points in the second half the team really wanted to win and fought on.

“We were not intimidated by their size or reputation of their school,” Tuirara said.

“I reminded the boys to keep working hard and not to let our two weeks of hard core preparation go to waste and that is what they did.

“It has been the parents, teachers and old scholars support that has helped us come this far.”

Tuirara said they would need to regroup and come back stronger against Queen Victoria School in the semi-final.

In other U16 quarterfinal results, Marist Brothers High School 20-23 Natabua High School, Ratu Kadavulevu School 20-13 Nasinu Secondary School, Queen Victoria School 15-7 Ratu Navula College.
