The JK Builders sponsored- Nadi Veterans beat Tavua 1-0 to retain the RC Manubhai/ APCO Coating Veterans International tournament 2018 at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

Earlier on Nadi Veterans beat Rewa Veterans 3-1 in the first semi-final before Tavua upset Ba Legends 2-1.

What happened: Both teams were evenly matched throughout the encounter. They settled at 0-0 at halftime. But Nadi kept on the tempo and in the final 10 minutes they managed to penetrate the Taviua defence with nippy Junior Prem slotting in their lone goal to joy of their fans.

The side had the services of former national goalkeeper Waisiki Batina, crafty midfielder Maika Kasami and Watisoni Voli.

Tavua had the services of former national defenders Valerio Nasema and Malakai Kanahawe while striker Arvind Pillay toiled hard but could not find any opening.

The Nadi Veterans collected $4000 for the win while Tavua walked away with $1000.

Comments: Nadi Veterans coach Lambert Sarju said: “We are really happy that we have successfully retained the title. “Our next plan is to take a team to the Pacific Cup that will be held in Sydney, Australia, so we will celebrate for now and regroup to prepare for the Pacific Cup in November.”
