2 Out Of 3 Escapees Arrested, Woman To Appear In Court For Alleged Harbouring

Escapees Nacanieli Bakata and Ilaitia Vuivuda have been arrested and are now back in police custody. Police confirmed that the pair were arrested this morning at Namara Settlement in Tacirua.

Police have arrested two escapees while one is still on the run.

Escapees Nacanieli Bakata and Ilaitia Vuivuda have been arrested and are now back in police custody.

Police confirmed that the pair were arrested this morning at Namara Settlement in Tacirua.

A team of made up of officers from the Valelevu Police Station and the Southern Division Taskforce were sent to the settlement where they arrested the duo and investigations will also look into whether they were assisted during their time on the run.

The Fiji Police Force acknowledged the assistance and support shown with regards to the information provided which led to the arrest of the two escapees.

The hunt for the third escapee Josaia Leone continues and members of the public are reminded that it is an offence to aid and harbour prisoners.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the three is requested to call Crime Stoppers on 919.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 20s will be produced at the Nadi Magistrates Court today for allegedly harbouring an escaped prisoner.

The accused is the partner of escapee Bakata.

The woman allegedly assisted Bakata on two different occasions since his escape from Police custody on the 17th of July, 2018.

The accused is alleged to have taken food to Bakata on the 19th and 21st July in Korociri and Votualevu.

She has been charged with two counts of harbouring a prisoner contrary to Section 79 of the Prisons Act and will be produced at the Nadi Magistrates Court this morning.
