2014 Monaco Yacht show first timer Fiji had used the opportunity to share with super yacht owners, captains and the international media about development of the yachting here.

Port Denarau Marina chief executive officer Nigel Skeggs and then Yacht Help Fiji managing director David Jamieson had spearheaded Fiji’s campaign in then September event that year.

Mr Jamieson is now with the Asia Pacific Superyachts.

Fiji was able to be part of the event through their New Zealand and Australian counterparts.

“It was a major investment from our point of view to be part of the Monaco show,” Mr Jamieson said.

“It was the first time Fiji was ever represented at the most expensive and glamorous event showcasing over 400 yachts.”

“The show was a huge success and it showed of our good relationship with Australian and New Zealand,” he added.

The event welcomed over 30,000 visitors who came to see the 115 super yachts and the 510 companies present during the four-day event.

“Having a booth during the show was a great way to showcase Fiji to the world which made people talk about Fiji. It was great,” he said.

“To be part of the show at the heart of the yachting world where billionaires and millionaires shared their great wealth inspired some of them to look at Fiji as a destination as well.”

The world superyacht market of over 5000 is set for growth in Fiji.

“In the superyacht industry, Fijians are now sought after for crew work. This is one outcome that we are very pleased about, as it provides a great career path and high income for Fijans”.

Mr Jamieson said they were grateful to Tourism Fiji for assisting them.
