Early childhood education should be equally important as primary school education, says Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School headteacher, Divendra Bijay.

He said parents should appreciate that early childhood education played an important part in building up a student’s character, knowledge and values.

The headteacher shared this sentiment during the Vashist Muni Kindergarten Early Childhood Education (ECE) Week celebration which ended last Friday in Navua.

“I would acknowledge all the stakeholders for their dedication in making the week long programme super successful for 2018,” Mr Bijay said.

During the closing ceremony the Fiji National University (FNU) in Early Childhood Education and Child Care of Fiji assistant lecturer, Biu Cava, said that activities displayed during the weeklong celebration had to be continued in the classroom as well.

“Students are to be exposed to all these activities to acquire the skills and understanding to our culture and the way we live,” Ms Cava said.

“The programme, which I have witnessed today is successful, meaningful and enjoyable as parents, staff and children come together during the week showing their support towards their children’s education.”

The week long event featured meke performances by the iTaukei students, displays from the Navua Fire Station, guest speakers from the Navua Hospital, and a slide presentation from ECE teachers to make the parents aware of the new teaching curriculum.
