After a lapse of two years, the Shri Sanatan Dharam Ram Bhakt Hanuman Mandir in Nasau, Nadi will host Hindu devotees to five nights of Ram Leela.

The farming settlement, which consisted of more than 2000 people, had stopped hosting the annual event two years ago after the Mandir was partially destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Pundit Anit Gosai said the five-day event would include pooja (prayer) and hours of religious songs with the use of classic Hindi musical instruments.

“This has been an annual event in this area, which attracts Hindu devotees across Fiji and overseas too.

“But, in 2016 we had stopped hosting this religious event after our temple was blown away by strong winds during TC Winston,” he said.

The event will showcase the re-enactment of the life of Lord Rama, which ended in a 10-day battle between him and the ten-headed Ravan, as described in the Hindu Holy Scripture, Ramayan.

Pundit Anit Gosai called on young Hindu devotees to take part in the five-day event so that they would be able to know more about Lord Rama.

“We are aiming at our young people because nowadays they are more into social media and other things around them, but wouldn’t know a thing about the Ramayan,” he said.

Pundit Gosai said the event would also include fundraising to raise money to fund the complete construction of the temple. Edited by Percy Kean
