Sevens maestro Waisale Serevi confirmed last night that he is going to help coach the Fiji Barbarians Deaf 7s team as they prepare for the 2020 World Deaf Sevens tournament.

While answering to a question raised by a guest at the University of the South Pacific on whether he has ever met a person during his coaching career that has hearing impairment, Serevi said he has not but is taking up a role to assist the Fiji Barbarians in any way possible.

The Fiji Barbarians Deaf 7s team won a bronze medal at the World Deaf Rugby 7s tournament in Australia last weekend.

“I have yet to coach a player who has hearing impairment but I have met a deaf football player who plays for the Seattle Hawks and it has really opened my eyes,” Serevi said.

“I would love to coach and have been in consultation with team and coaches and will love to return and help the team. I believe they are preparing for the 2020 tournament and I’m excited that we will go and win the next world cup together.”
